This is a place my husband and I used to frequent often because really, who doesn’t love a good prime rib? We came here when we were just dating, then after we got married, and now we often celebrate many of our special moments here. The price used to be very affordable, just a bit more than your average dinner out. Over the years, the cost has steadily increased, which is understandable. However, in the past few years, the price hikes have become more noticeable. Back in 2020, the House Cut was 43. By 2023, it had climbed to 58. On a more recent visit, I was surprised to see it had actually dropped back down to 48. Despite the fluctuations, our family has many fond memories here. This was actually the place where we took our son for his first “fancy” dinner. While there’s no dress code, it has become a bit of a family tradition for us to dress up just a little when we dine here. Maybe it’s just an excuse to play dress-up while the rest of the world is out in their athleisure... even though they’re not going to the gym. Price comes with a salad, a loaf of sourdough bread, Yorkshire pudding, cream of spinach and baked potato (sometime cornbread too). The restaurant still gets a solid 5 out of 5 from me. My husband joked that my House Cut looked more generous than his King Cut, so he says it’s more like a 4 out of 5 for him, but either way, we’ll keep coming back. Please chill on your price increases so we can come more often, and not just on special occasions . We already have reservation to go again in a few months to celebrate our wedding anniversary
I celebrated my birthday at the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco this evening, and it was an unforgettable experience! The ambiance perfectly captures what you would imagine a traditional prime rib house to be like...warm, welcoming, and filled with classic charm. The table-side salad service and the iconic meat cart are signature highlights, and they truly elevate the dining experience. I chose the King Henry VIII cut, complete with the bone, and it was absolutely perfect....cooked to perfection with unparalleled flavor. Every side dish complemented the prime rib beautifully: the creamed spinach was exceptional, the mashed potatoes were smooth and flavorful, and the Yorkshire pudding was divine. The bread and butter were outstanding, and the creme brulee was the perfect sweet finale. For my birthday, I was treated to a delightful sorbet "on the house," which was a wonderful touch. The option to bring your own bottle was great, with a reasonable service charge that made sense and added convenience. We were a group of six, and the service was top-notch...attentive and friendly, making the evening even more special. We enjoyed the experience so much that we've already made reservations for next year's birthday celebration! A word to the wise: it's best to make reservations well in advance to secure your spot at this fantastic restaurant. The House of Prime Rib truly sets the standard for a prime rib dining experience, and I can't recommend it highly enough!
The experience at House of Prime Rib is second to none. From the moment you enter the restaurant you know you're in for an experience. From the furnishings and decorations, to the carts of perfectly cooked beef roasts, the House of Prime Rib still showcases why it has and always will be a "San Francisco Landmark." I ordered the House Cut medium rare. It proved to be too much for me but the leftovers were amazing. *I'm very aware that I could have ordered a smaller cut and ordered seconds. It was cooked perfectly. Layers of flavor cooked into the meat. Mashed potatoes were great and the side I was looking forward to the most, the creamed spinach. Chef's Kiss. The House of Prime Rib is undefeated. The entire experience is exceptional.
Walked in and was greeted nicely. They brought us to our table and pulled out the chair for my grandma which was very thoughtful. The food was fast and efficient and the portions seemed huge! I also enjoyed the fact that a second order of the sides and beef were complimentary. When it was time for the bill, we had to wait a bit longer than expected mainly because the server was caught up with other tables. I also felt like there was more attention paid to certain individuals based on if they were suspected to be the ones paying. Overall experience was great and i would love to come back!
House of Prime Rib is a staple in my wife's family. It was my first time going and we didn't have reservations. Lucy for me my wife knew when to get there to stand in line. The drinks were excellent, and the food was even better. The staff from the servers to the chefs and the bartenders to the bussers were all super friendly. You can tell they really like working there. We had a great time and you can definitely expect me back!
So this place is definitely top shelf, service is very good, they have a fairly regular routine that the servers do an excellent job with. The 3 stars for atmosphere is due to I've been there 5 times and the noise level is just too much, you really can't hear well and everyone is shouting like they in 'Da club'... but it really doesn't get in the way. I would recommend the English cut, it's the same amount, just cut smaller and thinner, I found it easier to eat.
Amazing experience thanks to our waiter Alberto. I’ve had this SF institution on my list for quite some time and I’ve finally had the fortune of nabbing a last minute reservation. For those who haven’t been, the menu is simple and streamlined. You choose your size of cut - City, House, English (Same as House portion but thinly sliced) and King Henry VIII. There is a fish option and kids portion of prime rib too. Then you choose your desired level of doneness. Bread, salad, creamed spinach and potatoes (mashed or baked) are all included. I had the King Henry cut and thoroughly enjoyed it. I only wish I had room for the another slice that was offered. Is it the best prime rib out there? No, but it’s certainly top notch and there’s no other dining experience that’s quite like what’s served at the House of Prime Rib.
So cool! I have been wanting to come here for years but never made the time. I finally got a reservation for my graduation night from USF. We came in early for our reservation and they accommodated us quickly, we only had time to order our drinks and we were already off to our table. The food was amazing, exactly what we expected, a bunch of meat! The sides are good and the lemon drop and cosmo were top notch!
